Social media is one oversized voice with a thousand different facets that begs for our attention, our obedience and our loyalty. As a Christian, walking through this hyped up mass of messages and glittering folly is not only a challenge, it is our responsibility for we are supposed to be following only one voice – the voice of Jesus. How do we find that voice and how can we be sure that what we think is his voice really is his voice?

The world is a big place and Christianity is a big religion. With 2,000+ denominations we will find a vast labyrinth of beliefs, traditions and interpretations of Scripture. One widely interpreted Christian belief is the understanding and use of the gift of speaking in tongues. For many it is an integral part of their faith and for others it can be looked upon as heresy. Who is right? Is the truth on the matter somewhere in the middle? We really should know, but how can we know? Stay with us!

Sometimes things need to change. When there is a great plan in progress, the need for great change is likely to be a part of that plan. Since Adam’s fall from grace, God’s plan for man’s redemption has been punctuated by changes, including the great Flood which ended the old world, the calling of Abraham which began the age of the Patriarchs, and the death of Jacob which ushered in the age of Jewish favor. Each change had a distinct purpose. Today’s story about the conversion of Cornelius signaled that another change was on the horizon – a change that would be played out through the experiences of the Apostle Peter and Cornelius, the first Gentile convert. God’s plan was progressing and great change was necessary. But why Cornelius? Why a soldier?

Today is Mother’s Day, a day to stop, think about and honor the role that motherhood plays in our lives. Be sure to express your gratitude to the mothers in your lives! Now, on this day that we honor motherhood we also want to look into the Bible’s treatment of womanhood. It sure seems like the Scriptures make women second class citizens. Is this true? Does the Bible in any way advocate for women?

It is a truly amazing thing to look at the intricacy and detail with which we are created. God not only blessed us with reasoning minds, He gave us the ability to experience the world around us through our five senses. Each of these five senses is a full experience in itself and putting them together can be truly remarkable. What if these five physical senses were a template for pathways to spiritual learning and growth? What if we could better understand and apply the teachings of Jesus by realizing how to use spiritual sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste? Stay with us!

We make decisions all the time. Some are big and significant life-altering choices and most others are small, often unnoticed and even insignificant. What most influences our decisions – reason, emotion or expediency? What about laziness versus discipline? Can we make better decisions? If so, how?

The Bible tells us to stand fight and be courageous for our faith. It also sometimes tells us to run away from some things and some people. What is the difference? How do we know when to plant our feet solidly on the foundation of Christ and truth or when to lace up the running shoes of righteousness and run away? Is it always an obvious answer? Is there ever a time that we would do both? Wait – how would you do THAT?

A few weeks ago we began to look at the nature of the soul as defined in the Bible – not as defined by traditions or mythology or different social groupings - but as defined by the Bible. What we found was the Bible clearly states that the soul – the being of man and animal - is mortal and subject to death, which is the absence of life. This program looks at Scriptures that seem to contradict this conclusion, as well as the difference between "soul" and "spirit." What does the Bible tell us?

It was 2,000 years ago today, early in the morning, that the world changed. It was not the brash outward change of a military coup, nor was it a treaty of the leaders of great nations to be lauded by the people. The world did not change because of some medical breakthrough or some magnificent discovery. No. The world changed because there was one tomb, just one tomb that was empty. It was a borrowed tomb, given to a man who had no earthly possession and who just three days previous, had been cruelly and unjustly tortured and crucified. This tomb was empty and that meant that nothing would ever be the same…

Today is a special day, for it was on this day over 2,000 years ago Jesus rode into Jerusalem to the adoration of the crowd. This would begin the final series of events that would lead to his death. Today is another anniversary as well, for it was on this day over 1,400 years before Jesus came, all of Israel was to take a lamb into their homes in preparation for the Passover and their miraculous delivery from slavery. Now, either this is a startling coincidence or it is a startling revelation of God’s plans and purposes...guess which answer we agree with?
