To have faith is to have an awesome power, for it connects you to something outside of yourself and sometimes to something within yourself that can alter your way of life. Now, depending on what you put your faith in, this altered way of life can end up leading to great advantage or to great disappointment. (Part I of a 2-part series) Death and taxes – two sure things for us in this life. Now, with taxes we can always try and avoid them – we can shelter our money, make less money, get a better tax advisor – you know – we can play the game and sometimes even come out ahead. With death there is no game, for it eventually finds every one of us. The only question here is what really happens when you die? Do you leave your body and go someplace or are you dead – really dead – as in not alive, not aware, just plain ol’ expired? As you already know, such a question has many different answers – stay with us as we attempt to establish a biblical perspective on the matter!

God blessed Isaac and he became a wealthy man. God through Elisha blessed the woman whose husband died with enough to pay her debts and then some. God told Malachi to test His grace by bringing in the tithes so that God could open the windows of heaven and pour out blessing. God is giving his people blessing and abundance! God seems to like giving them abundance! So, what’s wrong with us? Why aren’t we wealthy children of God? Why haven’t we been made rich like Isaac? What’s wrong with this picture? Plenty! A few weeks ago we began a conversation about racism and its origins. We talked about the mythical “Curse of Ham” which led to a mythical subduing of the black race. All of that said, we also looked at some history and effects of racism over the last 1500 years and asked plainly, does God show any kind of a racist approach to humanity? This week we want to continue looking at this difficult and sensitive subject through the lens of scriptural understanding and truth.

Love, marriage, tradition and happiness. As time goes on, these four timeless elements of our world seem to be drifting ever further apart from each other. It is almost as if we are at a point where we are not really sure what to believe in or how to believe in it.
